Shot Tec Review

shot tec reviewHaving a powerul shot in hockey is a great way to score more goals, there are a lot of training aids out there that promise to improve the power of your shot and the Shot Tec is one of them. In this article we give you a full review of the Shot Tec

Purpose – The purpose of the Shot Tec is to strengthen the muscles that are used when taking a wrist shot. It is designed for a fairly specific purpose, so lets hope it can deliver! The Shot Tec was not designed for slapshots or for teaching players how to take a shot

How it works – The Shot Tec uses a hockey puck that is attached to a resistance band that is fitted into a track. The player can use a dial to choose how much resistance they want and then practices “shooting” the puck. The puck only moves forwards and backwards on the track so the full wrist shot motion can not be completed.

The device also uses a digital display to count the number of reps, and counts down from a pre-set number of seconds. You can choose any 30 second interval up to 3 minutes.

Price – The Shot Tec sells for $349.99 on Hockey Shot

What You Get – The Shot Tec comes pre-assembled, all you have to do is plug it in and start training. They did send a rubber stopper to install, but it was obviouslly not a part of the original design and I was unable to install it on the device.

Taking the Shot Tec to the Streets

Does it work? – The device does exactly what it is designed to do, and that is provide resistance to a hockey puck while you shoot. The tricky part about training is targeting the right muscles, you might be able to bench press 500 pounds, but that doesn’t mean you can take a wrist shot. The Shot Tec targets the exact muscles involved in shooting. This sport specific training should help you develop a more powerful shot, and a quicker release.

What can you do with it? – When I was testing the product there were about three different shooting positions that I thought were worthwhile, snapshot (feet towards the target), wrist shot(feet paralel to the target) and backhand, besides these three I couldn’t really find any other use.

What can’t you do? – The Shot Tec is not for LEARNING to shoot, it’s specifically for improving the power of your shot. You also can not practice the slapshot.

Overall Thoughts

Penalty Box – There are a few minor penalties here and the first one is price, it is $350 which I would expect to pay for a high-tec training device but what you can do is pretty limited; which brings me to my next penalty. For $350 the only thing you can do is improve the power of your wrist shot, I think for most players that $350 would be better off spent elsewhere.

Scoresheet

  • Easy to use
  • Six different resistant settings is nice to customize your workout
  • Digital display is nice to track your progress and compete against others, or yourself
  • Targets the exact muscles used in taking a wrist shot
  • Will help build your shooting muscles and help you develop a quick release

Who is it for?

In my opinion this device is for anyone who really wants to improve their shot power, and already has good technique. I think technique is the most important factor when it comes to the power of your shot. If you can afford this device and want to target the muscles used for shooting then this device is for you.
